Do You Need a Dehumidifier?
Summer is here, meaning that Texas heat will be at its all-time high along with its friend, humidity. Luckily, there’s a simple fix to most of your indoor humidity problem – acquiring either a whole-home dehumidifier or portable unit made for specific areas. But… how do you know you REALLY need a dehumidifier? Check out for these major signs at home:
- Moldy spots
One evident way of figuring out if you need to invest in a dehumidifier is when you begin noticing mold growth around your home. Mold tends to form on walls and ceilings when there is excess moisture in the air although mold can grow in any poorly ventilated areas of the home including bathrooms, closets, or basements.
If you begin noticing condensation forming on your windows or glass doors, it may mean that it is too humid indoors. Be sure to check for condensation, fog, streaks of water, or droplets forming.
- Bad odors
Don’t know what that musty smell is? There’s a huge chance that the smell is a result of the mold and mildew present in your home.
- Water stains
Another result of excess moisture are water stains on your walls, ceilings, and floors. Along with mold, humidity may accumulate and create damp stains as well.
If you’re experiencing one or more of the signs listed above, you may need to consider investing in a humidifier! If including a dehumidifier into your strategy does not eliminate your humidity issues, you may have an issue with your home’s ventilation. If this is the case, please contact your local HVAC professional to discover how to increase your home’s ventilation.
